What Denver Startup Week events are for me?

Denver Startup Week is approaching, and we wanted to provide you with a quick and segmented list by the type of person you are and also what Quick Left is looking most forward to attending, hosting, or doing next week. As an entrepreneurial center supported by a strong community of entrepreneurs, investors, government, and education, there’s no shortage of amazing tracks hosted by incredibly smart and passionate people.

According to Denver Startup Week’s website:

Innovation is everywhere. Bringing it to life takes the skills and drive of an entire team; founders, developers, product managers, designers, marketers, sales teams, and makers. Denver Startup Week is where every member of that team can come to learn, grow, and be ready to take on the next challenge. Each of our tracks is geared towards one of these roles, with workshops, keynotes, and panels that will help you grow yourself and grow your startup.

With over 200 events happening all over Denver, it’s tough to narrow it down and for some reason, we really liked everything on Monday and Thursday. We did our best and hope to run into you at one or all of these events.

  1. FOR THE ADVENTURE SEEKER // Selfie Stick Photo Booth with Quick Left, Drizly and Favor // 9-5 ALL WEEK // Galvanize on Platte //

If you haven’t seen my superlative on the Quick Left team page or haven’t attended a QL hosted event, then you won’t know how absolutely important it is to document the evening with a photos, props and more photos. Perhaps the thing I’m most excited about is partnering with Drizly and Favor to bring you the Selfie Stick Photo Booth. Before you write me off, have you even tried a selfie stick? No!? Then you should find time in your busy schedule to swing by the QL office at Galvanize on Platte. The rules are simple: use props (ours or your own), take your best selfie, tag us on Twitter with the hashtag #DSW15, and you could win a Drizly sponsored happy hour and a Favor food bar delivered to your office!

  2. FOR THE FUNDRAISER OR GROWTH HACKER // Crowdfunding KungFu: Build Your Chops! // Monday 9-28 @ 4 PM // KPMG

Here’s a secret: I’ve moderated this panel before and I know a thing or two about marketing. I didn’t realize how LITTLE I knew of the crowdfunding world. It truly is a science. We’ve all heard of crowdfunding and you’ve probably had a few friends go through Kickstarter (or at least seen it on Facebook), but join us for a special night where we’re bringing experts on crowdfunding and crowdsourcing together to share their stories and knowledge!

These women entrepreneurs have either worked with startups or led their very own companies to get funded. Learn how they generate buzz, raise capital and bring ideas to market. We are excited to have them speak to this group and have a feeling this will be high-energy, exciting and inspiring so bring your dying-to-know questions.

  3. FOR THE DEVELOPER OR PRODUCT MANAGER //App Strategy Workshop & Happy Hour: Monetize. Optimize. Drive Downloads // Monday 9-28 @ 4 PM // Galvanize on Platte

Join leading mobile experts, app developers, and local startups for an afternoon of insightful discussions on how to turn your app into a profitable business. Speakers from Google, TechStars, Millennial Media, Pollen, OpenX, and more will share strategies to increase downloads, leverage analytics, and maximize revenue generating opportunities. Attendees will also hear local entrepreneurs share their stories and secrets for startup success, then have the opportunity to mingle with speakers and attendees over drinks and appetizers.

  4. FOR THE WOMEN LOOKING INTO CODING OR BUSINESS OWNER LOOKING TO INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE // I’m Female And Code Curious: Now What? // Thursday 10-1 @ 8 AM // The Commons on Champa

Learning to code can be daunting, especially as a female. How do you determine whether programming is right for you? How do you go from a hobbyist coder to a professional developer? How do you successfully make a name for yourself in a predominately male industry?

Come hear from several women who have been there and done that. Moderated by QLer Simone Johnson, who just happens to be code curious herself. They’ll talk about our experiences switching careers, learning to code, breaking into the startup scene, and how we’ve found support along the way.

Panelists include Meeka Gayhart (software developer at Quick Left), Kinsey Ann Durham (software developer at GoSpotCheck), and Marla Brizel (current student at the Turing School of Software and Design).

  5. FOR THE DESIGNER OR THE DEVELOPER // Design Vs. Dev: It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way // Thursday 10-1 10 AM // Epiphany

This panel will bridge both the Design Track and the Development Track.  Anyone who has managed or worked on a team creating a digital product or website knows exactly what I’m talking about when I say “design vs dev.” It’s like there is an unwritten rule that designers and developers should not like each other and it is their personal responsibility to make the others job as hard as possible.

  6. FOR THE FOUNDER // Angel Happy Hour // Thursday 5-6 PM // Thrive Ballpark

This event will provide the chance for angel investors and entrepreneurs to interact and make connections. In addition to beer and wine Rockies Venture Club’s Peter Adams will provide a 10 minute presentation that will provide insight for both entrepreneurs and investors as to what the best practices are when it comes to raising angel capital/investing in Colorado Companies.

  7. FOR THE NETWORKER // TechCrunch Denver Meetup + Pitch-Off // Thursday 10-1 6 PM // Galvanize on Platte

The most anticipated event of Denver Startup Week 2015 (besides my selfie stick photobooth). TechCrunch is coming to Denver for the first time to hold their legendary Meetup + Pitch-Off, a competition between 10 startup companies all competing for the grand prize, an exhibit spot in Startup Alley at TechCrunch Disrupt in London or New York!
