Late last year we were happy to host a couple successful programs aimed at giving back to our startup community.
One of those programs was called Adopt a Startup. We fielded over 50 applications of seed fund stage startups to find one we believed in. The prize was technical help from our talented engineers. We chose to work with Stand In, a Portland-based mobile app simulation product, because of their solid team and in the scalability of their technology .
We also invested in our first two QL Convertibles, or convertible note projects. Let's talk more about that...
Portland-based Stand In stood out in Quick Left’s Adopt a Startup accelerator-esque startup competition. Stand In, a Portland Incubator Experience graduate, is an Adobe® Photoshop® based software, created specifically to enable designers to build functional mobile application prototypes directly from Photoshop, in real time. Stand In's platform empowers designers to create those engaging experiences, on an actual device, without having to write a single line of code.
If you haven't heard about our Adopt a Startup program yet from here, here or here, that's ok. Because there's been an addition (literally)! As most of you know, Quick Left is very much embedded in the startup community and upon launching our Adopt a Startup program, we honestly didn't know how it would be received. Well, Colorado and Oregon have spoken, and so did startup communities across the US (and outside the US). So we've decided to add an additional pair of developers and an additional market - the Bay Area - to the docket.
As most of you know, Quick Left is very much embedded in the startup community. We understand the challenges entrepreneurs experience with regard to technological innovation, fundraising, expediting product launches, and hiring exceptional technical talent. Having worked with Techstars grads and Foundry Group-backed startups as well as established companies like Ping Identity, Red Robin and Photobucket, we decided it would be nice to give back to the startup community which has provided the support for us to grow and expand our offices, tech talent, and offerings.
Enter the Adopt a Startup competition hosted by Quick Left. This accelerator-esque startup competition offers pre-Series A companies the chance to apply to win a month ($64,000 value) of custom software development with a pair of our expert full-stack developers in exchange for value equivalent convertible notes. We’re accepting applications now through December 15 for work to begin January 5th.
